Master of Health Science Education

Curriculum


General Objective

To provide graduates of health science education with a career in teaching in health science institutions with a community-oriented, competency-based, and problem-based curriculum or training program.

Specific Objectives

At the end of the program, the students must be able to demonstrate skills in

  1. Applying the principles of organizational development and planning in the field of health science education.
  2. Developing a relevant community-oriented, competency-based, and problem-based health science curriculum.
  3. Facilitating learning in health science students.
  4. Assessing and evaluating health science students, teachers, and programs.
  5. Conducting problem-solving creative research in health science education.

Learning Packages

The program covers five (%) areas of learning packages:

  1. Organizational Development and Planning in Health Science Education
  2. Curriculum Development
  3. Facilitating and Teaching Techniques
  4. Assessment and Evaluation
  5. Research

Each package is composed of a different number of modules which are assigned credit hours of work depending upon the subject matter and the performance required for the passing mark.

Mode of Instruction

Distance Education Mode

Evaluation

There will be no written examination.

Evaluation will be based on student's performance in projects and practical application.

The performance is measured with respect to some standards given to the student as he receives his tasks. There is no quantitative grading system. The grade of "PASSED" is given to the student who has reached a mastery of the subject matter according to designed performance criteria.

Graduation Requirement

At least a satisfactory completion of all learning packages (36 units) under the program.

Duration of Study

The program has a prescriptive period of 5 years for completion, excluding leaves of absences. Maximal allowable leave of absence is one year.

Any student who goes beyond the prescribed limit but still desires to continue toward completion will be required to undergo a VALIDATION SCHEME, the details of which ahve to be threshed out between the student concerned and the school.

Admission Eligibility

Graduates of approved colleges/schools of medicine, nursing, dentistry, and occupational and physical therapy.
